To mark the 70th anniversary of the Jewish transports from Ostrava to Terezín, the Jewish Museum in Prague will be putting on-line a unique collection of personal and family documents that illustrate everyday Jewish life in Ostrava before the Second World War and the fate of Ostrava’s Jews during the Holocaust, as well as the stories of those who survived.
On Tuesday 26th June, a concert was held in Foerster´s Hall in Prague. Compositions of the significant native Czech, Anthony Philip Heinrich were played and performed in a restored premiere, by a pianist Pavel Farsky and a singer Kristin Calabria (Philadelphia, USA).
RefuFest creates a space where you can meet people from all walks of life and corners of the world. Through music, dance, theater and taste sensations, visitors of Refufest are given the opportunity to become familiar with other cultures and in this way to learn from one another.
PRAGUE: Until very recently, busking was prohibited in Prague without a license, but the situation has changed. Now buskers can entertain in the streets of Prague without threat of persecution for their artistic expression. One of them, UK singer-songwriter Alasdair Bouch, who has long been based in Prague, shares with me his experiences with busking, here in Prague and all around the world.
PRAGUE: Can you imagine to be a child loving books and having no possibility to go to the bookshop and find something you would like to read in your mother tongue? This was a situation of children from international families living in Prague who couldn´t find a good selection of children books in French, German or even in English. The situation is changed now thanks to Olivia Antelmann who set up here 1st International Children´s Bookstore called „Amadito& Friends“. In the interview she told us what was the main idea to set up this bookstore and what cultural events she planned there.
A volunteer programme has been underway within the Society of Friends of the Jewish Museum in Prague since the autumn. This is intended for anyone who wants to know how the museum works ‘from the inside’, to take part in the museum’s events, to learn something new and to help the museum.
PRAGUE: Would you like to improve your English and at the same time get to know more about all kinds of literature? Then don’t hesistate to visit one of Prague’s most popular reading groups, whose members meet every other Wednesday at ‘The Globe’ café and bookstore (Pštrossova 6, Praha 5). MAŘÍŽ: Within the project European Park Bavaria – Czech a group of pupils and lectorers from a partner town Bogen visited Slavonice. They created – together with pupils from basic school in Slavonice – „a commemorative book“ during an artistic workshop, which will serve for keeping comments of citizens who will support maintenance of Mariz Park.

Poet and singer Lucien Zell, a man with one hand but double gift in arts, is originally from California, but since 1998 he has been living in Prague. Here he set up a poetic rock band called The Wavement and also he organizes here concerts, poetry readings and poetry workshops. In his writing he spread around a lot of positive energy, fresh and light attitude to life.
CR: International Roma day is one the few feasts that Roma people have. It falls on 8th of April and in nineties it became international issue. This day celebrates Roma culture and spreads the awareness of the problems which are Roma people facing.
KYSELKA: Spa Kyselka deteriorate already for a long time. Directly proportional to the idleness of the competent authorities is the fate of this cultural monument coming to its end. After all, already in 2009 the Ombudsman Otakar Motejl released report called In Kyselka government has completely failed.
HLINSKO: On Saturday 19th of February 2011 in the area of natural museum Veselý Kopec (Merry Hill) will be held this year´s firs program – Carnival. This traditional custom is listed as part of World Heritage UNESCO.
Foundation for Civil Society Development (FCSD) in cooperation with Norwegian Helsinki Committee has launched firs official contact point for Czech and Norwegian NGOs.
PRAGUE: On special conference held in Prague on 20th of December 2010 were officially presented the results of first-ever selection of CANON OF MOTION PICTURE 2010. On the selection process have participated 82 celebrities (from film and non-film area).
PRAGUE: The National museum has launched a new on-line presentation of museum and gallery collections. Pages eSbirky.cz is currently hosting seven of memory institutions with about ten thousand collection items.
PRAGUE: The aim of project called “Library for all” is to open public local libraries for foreigners and establish their mutual contact with local community.
